About KayaWise

Free, fast tools that help South African households, small employers, landlords, tenants and families get everyday money questions right: tax, paying a domestic worker, what it really costs to run a home, renting, settling a loved one's estate, SASSA social grants, running a small business or side hustle, and planning around public holidays and school terms.

Why "KayaWise"?

"Kaya" is South African slang for home, from the isiZulu "ekhaya". We build tools that help people make wise money decisions at home: what they take home after tax, how to pay a domestic worker correctly, what it really costs to keep the lights on and the car running, how to rent a home fairly, whether you are the landlord or the tenant, how to settle a loved one's estate, when your SASSA grant will be paid and how much it is, how to invoice and pay tax on a small business or side hustle, and which days are public holidays and school holidays.

How we check our numbers

  • Every rule, rate and price in our code records the official source it came from and the date it takes effect.
  • Each calculator shows those sources and when they were last checked.
  • Automated tests reproduce official worked examples, such as SARS PAYE tables, before anything goes live.
  • If we cannot confirm a figure from an official source, we leave it out and say so, rather than guess.

How we are funded

The sites are free. They may show clearly labelled display advertising in future. We do not use affiliate or referral links, we are not paid to recommend any provider, and adverts never change a calculation.

Not advice

Our tools give general information and estimates, not financial, tax or legal advice. See our terms.
